At Ethicare, we are proud to offer two welcoming day care centres where adults aged 18 and over with learning disabilities can enjoy meaningful activities, build confidence, and feel part of a supportive community. Our focus is always on empowerment helping each person develop skills, explore interests, and form lasting friendships.
Sherburn Hill Community Hub
Front Street, Sherburn Hill, Durham DH6 1PA
We are delighted to be based in our premises at Sherburn Hill Community Hub, formerly Sherburn Hill Primary School. We sub-lease part of this vibrant community space, with our own dedicated entrance and outdoor area, and it is also home to our main office.
The setting has opened wonderful opportunities for the people we support. With improved facilities and more space, we are able to offer a wide range of engaging activities designed around the interests and choices of our participants. These include arts and crafts, drama, sports, and personal development sessions.
Our aim is simple-to enhance quality of life by supporting individuals to learn new skills, try new experiences, and build meaningful relationships in a safe, friendly, and encouraging environment.
Southbrook House
Church Vale, High Pittington, Durham DH6 1AH
Our Southbrook House centre has been thoughtfully refurbished to create a bright, accessible, and comfortable space for everyone. It includes full disabled access, a wheelchair hoist, a spacious workroom with internet access for projects and learning, and a quiet room for those who may need a calm and relaxing environment, including individuals living with dementia.
We also have a fully equipped kitchen, where individuals can develop their independent living skills through cooking and daily activities.
Located in the heart of a friendly community, Southbrook House offers plenty of opportunities to connect with others. We host a regular Lunch Club, bringing people together and helping our service users build confidence, relationships, and practical life skills.
Outdoors, we enjoy maintaining our garden space and have also taken on a community allotment nearby. Working alongside Northumbria in Bloom, we are developing this into a sensory and therapeutic space, alongside a traditional allotment—giving people the chance to enjoy nature, learn new skills, and take pride in their achievements.
At both of our centres, we strive to create a warm, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
